Valued Beginnings:

An Emotionally Intelligent Approach to Developing Youth Leadership Programs

Join us for John Grund’s “Valued Beginnings” the first offering in our Experience Learning Sessions.

No matter if you teach in a classroom, after-school, or wilderness setting, developing leadership skills with youth can be as challenging as it is rewarding. Using experiential methodology, Valued Beginnings introduces participants to an integrative approach for youth leadership that blends current models in Adventure Learning, Emotional Intelligence, Mindfulness, and the emerging field of Interpersonal Neurobiology.

 

This Workshop will cover:

  • Utilizing the Full Value Commitment as a framework for wellness and program development
  • Emotional Intelligence and its use in cultivating Youth Leaders
  • An overview of the eighteen Emotional Intelligent Leadership Competencies and the use of Boytazis Self Directed Learning model for goal setting and personal growth
  • The fields of Interpersonal Neurobiology and Mindfulness and their impact on developing personal growth, connectedness, and creating a safe school climate
  • A semester-long experiential orientation model that uses portable initiatives and a challenge ropes course and serves as a primary prevention model for bullying and substance use.
  • Adaptations for high school and college settings

Presenter Biography

John Grund, BA in Psychology from Iona College an MSW from New York University, has worked in the NJ public school system as a social worker, student assistance counselor, Peer Leadership advisor, and antibullying specialist for the past 25 years.

John has also been a certified trainer of Adventure Based Counseling for Project Adventure for over 20 years and was recently honored with the Jim Schoel Full Value Award for Innovative Leadership.

John resides with his family in Long Valley, NJ. He is an avid meditation, yoga and Tai Chi practitioner and lives mindfully through his personal adventures in sailing, kayaking, hiking, and biking.
